SPECIAL KEYNOTE (Wednesday): CEPro's Julie Jacobson
The Uberization of Smart Home Services

When Julie talks about “Uberizing” your smart-home business, she first cautions: Don’t be so literal.
“We’re not talking about on-demand like Uber,” which she elaborates on during her presentation. “Take the best of what some of these companies are doing, and the best of what you’re doing, and try to make a nice blend for your customers.” This is not a lesson on how to be like Uber or how to sell DIY products, but more “an exercise in business creativity” that works to inspire integrators to “experiment” with new business models for a new era of smart-home delivery.
The Keynote will provide practical ideas for responding to the on-demand economy – like paring down product offerings, standardizing on programming, creating simple and predictable pricing models, and doing everything possible to keep customers from actually having to talk to a real person.
There will be lots of time for Q&A in this timely, informative, interactive and practical presentation.

This presentation will call upon the collective experience of two industry veterans who will offer solutions to some of the most daunting challenges faced by dealers today. You are not alone out there. Dealers across the country are getting up every day and slaying the same dragons you are facing. Join us as we discuss the rapidly changing marketplace and how you can make the most of it. Let us give you a different perspective on how to improve everything from your employee relationships to the level of customer service you provide. We will share sales and business philosophies that will simply make you better at what you do. Now is the time to advance your place in this business. Let us show you how.
Presenter Backgrounds:
Dave Donald: An industry veteran with over 35 years in the CI biz, Dave was on CEDIA’s founding Board of Directors and was instrumental in building the industry through his work with several manufacturers. He is well known throughout the industry as a speaker and presenter having been an instructor and curriculum creator for several critical industry courses. His passion for elevating dealer’s understanding of customer interaction and sales psychology has him in high demand as a lecturer at industry events worldwide. His background as a professional musician is tremendously synergistic with his desire to bring great music to absolutely every home around the world.
Marc Fischer: Marc is a consumer electronics veteran with his primary focus being sales and sales management. His dynamic personality and desire to positively affect every person he meets has made him a major influence in the industry. His uncanny ability to communicate his enthusiasm to others created opportunities for sales positions in which he dramatically excelled. Beginning as a regional sales rep in Philadelphia his success led to him taking over the entire East Coast and later the entire country. He was crowned Salesman of the Year twice in a row and received the honor of being twice named one of the “Top 40 under 40” by the industry’s leading trade publication. As a master presenter and keynote speaker, his ability to deliver even the most technical material with passion and insight has made him a very valuable asset regardless of the brand he represents.

Avoiding "Good Enough" and Profiting With Upscale Audio

DIY, IoT, and the less expensive “race to zero” products are everywhere and this will continue to expand. Our industry needs to embrace these trends and equally as important, understand the mentality of the end user. That does NOT mean what they want is what they need. Is a SoundBar really the right choice, or just the easy one? Is a smart speaker going to give them the feeling of being back at a concert that they were at live? We are selling experiences, not just products.
Iindustry veterans with backgrounds in high performance Audio will help you ask the right questions, do the right demos, review ways to integrate tech, and set-up systems properly. Show your clients VALUE and PERFORMANCE and deliver results that will blow them away. Do that and YOU GET TO MAKE MORE PROFIT TOO… Nothing wrong with making a fair profit for proving value.
Presenters: Brad Paulson has owned high performance audio stores, been a custom integrator, and taught practical audio seminars all over the world. He also has a background with manufacturers such as B&K, PS Audio, Sooloos, Broadmann, StormAudio and more. His practical methods of helping people experience the performance of quality audio are methods that you can use immediately.

Servicology: The Science of Selling, Delivering and Monetizing Technology Management

Service by itself is nothing new. Our industry has taken care of its clients for decades by giving out personal numbers and sacrificing family time, all the while trying to keep up with the rest of the business.
But today’s connected home and the modern family within it require a different approach. They need instant support, ongoing management, and a process that instills confidence.
This seminar will walk through the mechanics of implementing service-oriented process throughout your organization. We’ll talk about a modern approach to sales, how to finish projects to hand off to service, and the day-to-day management of your clients’ needs so you can learn to lead your business with service.
Presenter Background: Joseph Kolchinsky is a founder and investor of companies in the personal and home technology industry. His passion lies in creating superior technology experiences through better technology design and excellent service/support. Founding One Vision (as a former integration firm) in 2008 he learned first-hand what it meant to manage technology in the home. Today, the company operates a smart-home service operations center that monitors and supports connected homes around the world while generating valuable RMR on behalf of its partners.
